Abstract: ATENSPM11 is a family of fossilized DNA transposons that belong to the En/Spm superfamily. Only two copies of ATENSPM11 are present in the A. thaliana genome, they are 95% identical to each other. The second copy is harbored by chromosome 4 and it is severely damaged by two long deletions. The first copy, deposited in Repbase, has been inserted recently into ATHILA7LTR copy, it is flanked by the GAT target site duplication. ATENSPM11 has 29-bp imperfect terminal inverted repeats and encodes an En/Spm-like transposase by several exons. Some of them are damaged by a few false stop codons.
