Title:
G5A_DM, a subfamily of non-LTR retrotransposons from the Jockey clade.

Abstract:
G5A_DM belongs to the JOCKEY clad of non-LTR retrotransposons. G5A_DM forms a separate subfamily of retrotransposons that were recently (several million years ago) active in the Drosophila melanogaster genome. There are about 50 copies of G5A_DM in the genome, they are ~7% divergent from the consensus sequence. The G5A_DM and G5_DM consensus sequences are 80% identical with each other. The G5A_DM consensus is not complete, approximately a 2000-bp 3' portion of the element is not present here. The ORF2 is reconstructed completely. It encodes the 904-aa G5A_DM-orf2p endonuclease and reverse transcriptase (positions 16-2727).
