Abstract:
TC1-2_DM belongs to the Mariner/Tc1 superfamily of DNA transposons. It has generated duplications of TA target sites upon its integration into the genome. TC1-2_DM has 26-bp imperfect terminal inverted repeats and it encodes a 340-aa transposase (TC1-2_DMp, positions 356-1375). The sequenced portion of the drosophila genome contains 15 copies of TC1-2_DM. they are ~95% identical to the consensus sequence. Presumably, TC1-2_DM lost its activity just a few million years ago.
