Title:
GYPSY11, an old family of Gypsy-like endogenous retroviruses in drosophila.
Journal:
Repbase Reports 2(11), 6-6 (2002)
Abstract:
GYPSY11_I is an internal portion of the GYPSY11 endogenous retrovirus. Its long terminal repeat is listed in Repbase as GYPSY11_LTR. GYPSY11_I is flanked by 7% divergent LTRs. Therefore, the age of GYPSY11 can be estimated as ~4 million years old. The internal sequence is incomplete because of multiple deletions. Open reading frames, which originally encoded gag, pol and env, are corrupted by mutations that cannot be reversed because of a small number of available copies of GYPSY11. GYPSY11 belongs to the TABOR group of GYPSY-like endogenous retroviruses.
