Title: HATN7_DR, an ancient nonautonomous hAT-like DNA transposon from zebrafish. |

Journal: Repbase Reports 2(6), 15-15 (2002) |

Abstract: ~1000 copies of HATN7_DR are expected to populate the zebrafish genome. The element was active long time ago, its copies are ~10% divergent from the consensus sequence. This element is characterized by 140-bp terminal inverted repeats and the 7-bp target site duplications. There is a 89% identity between internal regions of the HATN7_DR (positions 330-454) and HAT1N_DR (positions 447-561) consensus sequence. Putative classification [2]: nonautonomous DNA transposon from the hAT superfamily. Presumably, some of hAT transposons may generate 7-bp TSD instead of the canonical 8-bp size. Given the structure of TIR and similarity to HAT1N_DR, it is unlikely that HATN7_DR belongs to the PROTOP family that is characterized by 7-bp target site duplications.
