Abstract: GYPSY36_AG is a family of Gypsy-like LTR retrotransposons that, according to the amino acid sequence of its Reverse Transcriptase RNase and Integrase is phylogenetically grouped with representatives of the MDG3 lineage of other organisms. GYPSY29_AG, GYPSY30_AG, GYPSY31_AG, GYPSY32_AG, GYPSY33_AG, GYPSY34_AG, GYPSY35_AG, GYPSY37_AG and GYPSY38_AG are other members of this same lineage in Anopheles gambiae. The GYPSY36-I_AG consensus was reconstructed after multiple alignment of 5 copies. The consensus encodes the 1423-aa GYPSY36_AGp gag-pol like polyprotein (pos. 1086-5354). The sequence of the LTRs flanking GYPSY36-I_AG is deposited as GYPSY36-LTR_AG.
