Abstract: SINE3-2_AO is a family of SINE3-like retrotransposons in the A. oryzae genome (a conceptual consensus sequence, 2 copies). The 65-bp 5' terminal portion (pos. 6-70) is derived from 5S rRNA (pos. 3-67, 98% identity to the A. oryzae 5S r RNA) and includes the polIII internal promoter. SINE3-2_AO encodes a hypothetical protein (pos 400-2500). There are several diverged families of SINE3-2_AO-like elements in the A. nidulans, A. fumigatus, and A. oryzae genomes.
