Abstract: hAT6-1_SP is a young family of hAT DNA transposons and it belongs to a novel group of hAT transposons, called hAT6, generating 6-bp target site duplications upon their insertions into chromosomal DNA. The hAT6 transposase is remotely similar to the standard hAT transposase; identified hAT6 transposase sequences form a distinctive phylogenetic cluster. hAT6-1_SP is flanked by 13-bp TIRs and encodes a 713-aa transposase (2 exons). The transposase contains the C2H2 zinc finger motif present in diverse hAT transposase sequences encoded by different hAT transposons. hAT6-1N1_SP is a non-autonomous deletion derivate of hAT6-1_SP.
