Abstract: This transposon belongs to a novel piggyBacA group of piggyBac transposons that also includes the piggyBacA-1_NGr, piggyBacA-1_DD, and piggyBacA-1_PPal transposons. The piggyBacA TPase is so distant from TPases encoded by other piggyBac transposons that their significant similarity to each other was detected only after 3 PSI-BLAST iterations, with specific parameter values different from the default: e.g. gap cost penalties were equal to (10, 1), instead of (11, 1). The genome contains a few copies of the transposon. Both termini are intact in 3 copies only. These copies are flanked by WTTAW 5-bp TSDs (TTTAT, TTTAA, ATTAA; including one copy inserted into DNA-3-1_DPur).
